Action Centered Tutoring Services

Serving Springfield With LOVE

Welcome From Jennifer Helfrich

I want to introduce myself as the new Program Director for Action Centered Tutoring.  The former Director retired at the end of 2025, so I am now taking up the responsibility for running, expanding, and improving ACTS programs.

We were able to say a warm farewell and express our thanks to the former Director, Dr. Headly, upon her retirement.  ACTS is grateful to Barbara for her work in re-opening programs that closed during the pandemic, and for the progress she made in expanding programming.

What Do We Do At Action Centered Tutoring Services

Below is more about ACTS, what we do and how you can help!

Mission

We are a community where elementary children thrive academically, relationally, and spiritually. Our mission is provide free one-to-one tutoring and mentoring to the elementary children of Springfield, in the Spirit of Christ.

About Us

We are backed by area professionals, and designed to meet the educational, relational and spiritual needs of the children served. We serve children who have been identified by their schools and/or parents as needing improvement in reading and math skills.

Students

ACTS seeks to serve elementary school children of Springfield who need some extra help in reading and/or math. The service is provided free on a one-to-one basis with a caring volunteer.

Volunteer

ACTS is the ONLY one-to-one, faith based tutoring and mentoring program in Springfield. There is always a great need for caring adults. For each student to be enrolled, an adult needs to volunteer.

ACTS provides free, one-to-one tutoring and mentoring to elementary school students in Springfield.

  • We give kids a little extra boost to help them build confidence, improve academics, and feel good about school.
  • We work with about 75 elementary school students each week during the school year.
  • Our volunteers give back 5,000 hours to the community each year.
  • The ACTS tutoring was formed in 1986.
